'Maumaharatia' / 'Lest We Forget' – EP track re-released in te reo Māori

Six-years after the release of his soulful tribute to the ANZACs as part of his eponymous debut EP, multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Troy Kingi (Te Arawa, Nga Puhi and Te Whanau-a-Apanui) has re-released the track in te reo Māori – his first waiata Māori release.

"This track is dedicated to all those who have gone before us, making the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom."

lyrics

NGĀ KUPU (Lyrics)

Tā te marahea he pāhiwi
ki te toa, ki tana ōhākī.
He toa horopū, hohoro mō te ariki.
Māharatia,
Te oranga, inā te utu e
I tō noho āhuru,
Whakaarohia te iwi houhare
Houhare
Mō tāua
E kore e kaumātuatia
Pēnei i a tātou e
I te hekenga o te rā, a, i te ata
Maumaharatia

I wehe ki tāwāhi
He mahi mātātoa.
Rere ana a toto
Rere ana a Roimata
Whakauenukutia
Kua tohua
ki te kohatu
E kore anō e kite
i tana ūkaipō
Tē mūhore
o tō mate
E kore e kaumātuatia
Pēnei i a tātou e
I te hekenga o te rā, a, i te ata
Maumaharatia
Te oranga, inā te utu e
I tō noho āhuru,
Whakaarohia te iwi houhare
Houhare
Mō tāua
E kore e kaumātuatia
Pēnei i a tātou e
I te hekenga o te rā, a, i te ata
Maumaharatia

They will grow not old
As we that are left grow old
At the going down of the sun...
Lest we forget,
Freedom it don't come for free
So while you're sitting there
Spare a thought for those who paved the way
For you and me
For you and me babe
They will grow not old
As we that are left grow old
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
